A Full Weekend

Saturday began early with Spencer and I reporting at Neptune Park at 7:00 a.m. to prepare for the city's annual Easter egg hunt. It was great to have so many of the youth city council in attendance. Destry was going to take Sarah to her friend's, Lydia Prestwich, baptism at 9:00, but she was being stubborn and refusing to go. I know that she would be sad in the end if she didn't go, but glad when she did. So we arrived a good 20 minutes late, hoping that we had not missed it. We hadn't.

They had some difficulties getting the font filled and grandma gave a long talk. Perfect. Lucky for us, since Lydia was scheduled first for the font. We had a lovely time and we cam home and began our "Saturday chores." I had plenty of them to get done. We would be celebrating Sarah's birthday on Sunday so I needed to make one more trip to the grocery store, decorate her cake, and clean the house. The kids did their part and Destry spent several hours cleaning carpets.

We bought a carpet cleaner at Costco a couple of weeks ago because it was cheaper than paying to have them professionally done even one time. I knew that if we hated it, we could take it back. Costco is good like that. It seems to work great and Destry has been a trooper cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. Most of the house has been done. Spencer's room needs to be done as does the basement family room. The stairs and certain spots in the family room have been cleaned, but it still needs a thorough cleaning.

Emma went on a bike ride with her friend on Saturday afternoon. There is a horse boarding stable behind our neighborhood. Emma and Kaisyn Holdaway went there for their ride. Being horse lovers, the stopped to pet a couple of them. Well, one that was either jealous he wasn't being petted, or he was angry for some other reason known only to him, he took Emma's small forearm into its mouth and chomped down. She did not mention this to me until 2-3 hours had gone by. She said it didn't hurt at first. I think she was trying to be brave for her friend. At any rate, when she did tell me I could see a swollen area and a ring where the teeth had been. There were the beginnings of a bruise, but no broken skin.

I called Tami Tanner, our friend who runs a therapeutic horseback riding gig where Spencer and Emma volunteer to see if she thought I should be worried. She was sympathetic and said that it hurts really bad to get bitten by a horse and that if the horse had wanted to, skin would have been broken. She said to ice it and put clay on it and watch it. Done and done. She has been in a lot of pain since. We have a doctor's appointment scheduled for tomorrow so she can get her required immunizations before beginning seventh grade. I will have it checked out then. She didn't want to go to school today. I let her stay home.

Destry and I got in a late dinner on Saturday night and watched "Into the Woods."

On Sunday I finished my preparations for Primary music time and presented my Easter themed activity. It went well. The kids' sang their testimonies of the Savior beautifully. I love my calling and I love the children!

I called my mom on Sunday morning to ask if she would mind coming early to help me prepare dinner. I was partially regretting agreeing to the menu of homemade chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes. I bought chicken tenders, so I didn't have to do any cutting, but I knew there would be a lot of breading going on. Sadly, my mom is sick and unable to come. Emma helped me out with about half of it. I' pretty sure that I will not be breading 10 lbs. of chicken tenders in a single afternoon ever again. I never peel potatoes when our family has mashed potatoes, but I usually do for guests. This time I skipped that step and was glad I did. Scrubbing and mashing were enough. Dinner was ready on time and we had more that enough, as usual. It is great to have so many family members willing and able to attend birthdays; although we miss those who are out of state!

Spencer and Taylor are helping with our stake's production of "The Lamb of God." It is a musical and narrative portrayal of the last week of the Savior's life. It is beautiful and testimony building. The boys are helping with the sound equipment. They are learning a lot and enjoying it too. They were in and out for the party. JR and Tammy and family stayed a bit longer than everyone else. I'm glad they did. I enjoy visiting with them and the kids enjoy playing with their cousins.

We got done everything we had committed to and decided to do. Hooray!

Oh the Irony

So yesterday I ranted about the expectations for St. Patrick's Day being too high.  And After Estelle had spend hours preparing to catch a leprechaun and lying awake the night before with equal parts excitement and worry about the leprechaun coming she decided when I was putting her and Sarah to bed to announce to the world, ie Sarah, that there were no such things as leprechauns, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy...etc., etc., etc. I have actually been expecting to have a conversation about that with her for months, but she always seems to pull herself back into the believing crowd. I am fine with whatever she chooses, I just want to let Sarah discover for herself without the blatant telling from her sister. I quieted her as quickly as I could and told her that we would talk about it later, meaning when Sarah was asleep and we could slip out of the room unnoticed. She has been questioning since long before last Christmas, but she always tells me she believ...

Responsibilities of the Oldest and Youngest

I began this 9/25/15. I am going to publish it as is. I am sure I had a story for each about each of my children, but I only made it to two. My heart is full of love and joy for the blessing my children are to me. Each one of them are working through their own set of challenges and are blossoming. I came home from work yesterday to find that Spencer had fixed the car. On his own. It was making a weird noise before he left school and he and a friend checked it out and determined that it was an easy fix and that he could drive home with it the way it was, but it should not be driven more than that until it was repaired. He went to the auto parts store and purchased the part and fixed it. Just like that. Wow! How awesome that he is developing the skills and taking the initiative to be responsible for the maintenance of the car he gets to drive. Notice I didn't say "his" car even though he likes to think of it as that. I was so impressed and proud of him for doing that...

Internet

I am grateful for the easy access to information, goods and services that the internet provides. Digital scripture study is the best thing to happen to my scripture study habits. I love the ease of cross referencing and the ability to read conference talks, the Ensign, the scriptures as well as a whole library of Church reference materials. I love online shopping. When I order Christmas gifts I feel like I get Christmas twice. Once when the package arrives and again when the gift is given. I am not a huge fan of shopping, and if it were always cost effective I think I would purchase everything online. I love the access to information that the internet provides. I makes helping my kids do research so much easier. I can look up symptoms of illness, find a recipe, get homework help, checkout a dictionary and so much more. Keeping in touch with friends and family through social media and email is also a blessing to me. I know that I cannot believe everything on the internet and tha...
