A Baptism and a Blessing and a New Baby

Yesterday was a red letter day!  It began at 6:30, early for a Saturday and ended late.  All the in between times were wonderful.  I readied myself and finished preparing and setting up food for the guests who attended Estelle's baptism.  I set out flowers and springish decorations.  My friend and neighbor, Melonie Jex, agreed to bake the quiche I had prepared so it would be hot and yummy when we returned from the baptism.  9:00 a.m. is early for a baptism and the conflicted with some schedules, but we had most of our family there.  Calie Macdonald was ready to have a baby so they didn't make it; he, in fact, was born this morning--yay!  With that one exception, all other grandparents aunts, uncles and cousins were present. The Tymons and Neva and Karen, Wendy and Christian came.  They are very supportive and I love them!   Even Taylor, who is sick AGAIN came to this once in a lifetime event.

Our stake Primary presidency is awesome.  They are organized and lovingly helpful.  We are in a brand new stake center.  Estelle was the only child baptized from our ward so she got to choose all the music and invite family to give talks and say prayers.  Grandpas Joe and Leon said the prayers.  Leon's prayer was much like a sermon it was a beautiful heart-felt prayer.  We are anxiously awaiting an announcement that he will be attending the temple for the first time!  We are grateful to have these two wonderful family Patriarchs.  Grandma Smith spoke about baptism and Grandma Claud taught us about the Holy Ghost.  Both directed their remarks to Estelle and were wonderful!

My favorite part of the day was after Estelle dressed in her white baptismal clothes we prayed together.  My heart filled with love for this child who made a choice to be baptized.  I am grateful for her being in my life.  I am grateful for moments alone with my children.  I am grateful she was prepared and excited for this day.  I hope she remembers it always!

The quiche took much longer than I expected to bake, but that was the only hiccup in the day.  Not too bad.  We enjoyed spending time together!  The Crump grandparents took the girls to Panguitch with them to spend a few days.  They were very excited!  It sure is quiet around here without them.

Last evening Destry, Spencer and I attended the blessing of Malcolm James Smith.  The first born child of David and Jessica.  He is adorable.  The girls were gone already and Taylor stayed home because he was sick.  It was a great day except that we had to say goodby to Adam who has been here for a week, but we realized that we hadn't seen enough of him yet.  The Morrils moved to Alaska last year and we planned the baptism and blessing around their visit.  We are happy they were here for the baptism and the blessing and are happy that Renee and the girls will be here for another three weeks which I know will go by much too fast.  And I fear that this time when they leave will be harder than the first.

I am grateful that family ties are strong and that we support each other in life's milestones.  We only have one more baptism to look forward to, but many more milestones.  I think I will get ready for church now and get ready to go meet my new nephew.

The Day He Died

Thirteen years ago today I was at an aquarium in the Gateway Shopping Center in Salt Lake City. I was with my sister-in-law, JuNette; her son Andrew and my three oldest children. Spencer had just turned five the day before, Taylor was three and a half, and Emma was 22 months. The aquarium was new and small, but we enjoyed our time there. After we had been there for some time JuNette handed me her phone and said that Destry had been trying to get a hold of me for quite some time. Destry told me not to worry, but that he and Christine were driving to my childhood home in Springville to check on my dad because no one had heard from him and he hadn't shown up to pick up my mom from the hospital.  My siblings and I had been worried about my mom's welfare because she had had a gastric bypass surgery to help her to loose weight and to improve both her health and her quality of life. The surgery had gone well and she was ready to come home on this day 13 years ago. Oddly, my dad neve

Her Life was Not as Sweet

A couple of years ago at a moment when my mom was expressing her love to her children and grandchildren, she mentioned that her Patriarchal Blessing stated she would live for as long as "life was sweet for her." She told us that while she missed her sweetheart dearly, life was indeed sweet. I thought that was a blessing for her and for us. This past year has been quite difficult for her. Last November she began having pain in her upper back, arms, and shoulders. She visited a pain clinic and received a series of injections providing her with some relief. By Spring her hands and feet were swollen and misshapen and she had difficulty getting her body moving each morning. If she had a morning appointment she would wake up at 4:00 a.m. in order to get her hands moving so she could use them. In the spring her primary care physician suggested she see a rheumatologist.  In the past she has had bad experiences either with rheumatology medications or doctors and I began going to

"Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me"

As a mother stills her child,      Thou canst hush the ocean wild; From August to November of last year, Taylor has had four witnessed and likely two other grand mal seizures; all of them in his sleep. By the time he'd had his sixth the Sunday before Thanksgiving, I had reached the end of my rope. It was terrifying to see him stiffen, shake, foam at the mouth and turn purple for many minutes. This particular seizure was the worst and the longest. We were struggling to get him seen by a neurologist and I had decided to call the paramedics for the fourth time and this time to have him transported to the hospital even if he regained consciousness. He needed to be fast tracked to testing and medication.  Little did I know that that call would take me down a path I never in a million years imagined I would be on.  To summarize what happened after the paramedics arrived, they pushed me out of Taylor's room and refused to give me the time of day. Never mind, he has a complex medical h
