IKEA!

We love IKEA. We have been visiting the gigantic store since it opened in 2007. I haven't spent a lot of money there, but we love to eat lunch on Tuesdays when kids get to eat for free. We also love to try out the furniture and beds in the showroom area, but our favorite part is to play "house" in the little house displays they have. I think our trip yesterday was our best time yet. The boys enjoyed going in the past, but they have decided that that is not for them any more. Spencer and Destry are at scout camp and Taylor stayed home to do school work and hang out with his friends, but the three girls and I spend three and a half hours there yesterday.

We got there for a late lunch, which was actually to our benefit because there was not a line. Then we began our exploring adventures. We spent close to an hour in the first house set up they have. Sarah was the mom and Emma and Estelle were the sisters. I observed and thumbed through an old Oprah magazine and a Swedish book that had a lot of pictures in it.

One of the rooms we checked out had a roll of paper and some markers and crayons that the girls spent some time decorating. There was a lamp in it that doubled, for Sarah, as an
x-ray machine. She took several x-rays of my arms and pretended to wrap them up so they could heal. Surprisingly, one of their favorite items were the pretend computers and laptops that they had in their showroom areas. They would rush to the one that had the best computer chair or to the bed that had a laptop sitting on it. You would think that we had enough of the real items that the pretend ones would not be appealing.

At the second house Emma was the dad, Estelle was the mom, Sarah was their child and I was the babysitter. There were keys hanging on a hook, so they older girls took them out to the next area and pretended they were going on a drive in the mountains, while Sarah and I stayed at home and drank punch. They prepared food, even loading and unloading the dishwasher. They went to bed at night. I love to watch creative, role playing.

We remembered that we had been there in the past with the Morrills. We miss them and tried to send them a picture while we were there, but it didn't go through. After our lengthy visit we decided that we had been there long enough that we didn't  need to walk through the marketplace.  When I asked the girls yesterday morning if they wanted to go Emma and Estelle considered not coming; in fact, when I asked Estelle if she wanted to go there she initially told me, "no." Emma was wishy washy and Sarah was a definite "yes." I told them they didn't have to go and that Sarah and I could just go together and it would be a "date." Well, that changed everything. Not wanting to miss out on a "date" with mom. Both hesitant girls decided to tag along. I'm so glad they did. It was a happy bonding moment for the three girls. Our IKEA trips will be lasting memories.

WE LOVE.... I-K-E-A IKEA!!!!!!!

Oh the Irony

So yesterday I ranted about the expectations for St. Patrick's Day being too high.  And After Estelle had spend hours preparing to catch a leprechaun and lying awake the night before with equal parts excitement and worry about the leprechaun coming she decided when I was putting her and Sarah to bed to announce to the world, ie Sarah, that there were no such things as leprechauns, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy...etc., etc., etc. I have actually been expecting to have a conversation about that with her for months, but she always seems to pull herself back into the believing crowd. I am fine with whatever she chooses, I just want to let Sarah discover for herself without the blatant telling from her sister. I quieted her as quickly as I could and told her that we would talk about it later, meaning when Sarah was asleep and we could slip out of the room unnoticed. She has been questioning since long before last Christmas, but she always tells me she believ...

Responsibilities of the Oldest and Youngest

I began this 9/25/15. I am going to publish it as is. I am sure I had a story for each about each of my children, but I only made it to two. My heart is full of love and joy for the blessing my children are to me. Each one of them are working through their own set of challenges and are blossoming. I came home from work yesterday to find that Spencer had fixed the car. On his own. It was making a weird noise before he left school and he and a friend checked it out and determined that it was an easy fix and that he could drive home with it the way it was, but it should not be driven more than that until it was repaired. He went to the auto parts store and purchased the part and fixed it. Just like that. Wow! How awesome that he is developing the skills and taking the initiative to be responsible for the maintenance of the car he gets to drive. Notice I didn't say "his" car even though he likes to think of it as that. I was so impressed and proud of him for doing that...

Internet

I am grateful for the easy access to information, goods and services that the internet provides. Digital scripture study is the best thing to happen to my scripture study habits. I love the ease of cross referencing and the ability to read conference talks, the Ensign, the scriptures as well as a whole library of Church reference materials. I love online shopping. When I order Christmas gifts I feel like I get Christmas twice. Once when the package arrives and again when the gift is given. I am not a huge fan of shopping, and if it were always cost effective I think I would purchase everything online. I love the access to information that the internet provides. I makes helping my kids do research so much easier. I can look up symptoms of illness, find a recipe, get homework help, checkout a dictionary and so much more. Keeping in touch with friends and family through social media and email is also a blessing to me. I know that I cannot believe everything on the internet and tha...
