Jokes from the Back Seat

Yesterday I drove the minions to the Lego Store at Fashion Place Mall in Murray. I was hoping some of them would want to stay home, but alas the only ones who did were the ones who could not stay home alone. As we were turning onto the freeway onramp from Bangerter Highway there are a couple of condominium buildings next to the it. One of the kids noted that they were really big houses. I set them straight as to their actually being condos, but one of the kids deemed them awesome if they had been houses. I of course mentioned the amount of cleaning they would require.

Someone else said that anyone with enough money for a house that size would be able to afford maids and butlers. Estelle proceeded to grace us with her spelling skills, stating that butler was spelled B-U-T-T... Then she asked if anyone knew how butlers got their name. Sarah quickly quipped that it was because their job was to help the princesses to wipe their bottoms. This was followed by laughter from all three girls and eye rolling from the boys. The quickness with which they came up with this was indeed funny, but a conversation that included a lot of bathroom talk was quickly squelched by mom. Sometimes I wonder just exactly where they all came from!

Oh the Irony

So yesterday I ranted about the expectations for St. Patrick's Day being too high.  And After Estelle had spend hours preparing to catch a leprechaun and lying awake the night before with equal parts excitement and worry about the leprechaun coming she decided when I was putting her and Sarah to bed to announce to the world, ie Sarah, that there were no such things as leprechauns, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy...etc., etc., etc. I have actually been expecting to have a conversation about that with her for months, but she always seems to pull herself back into the believing crowd. I am fine with whatever she chooses, I just want to let Sarah discover for herself without the blatant telling from her sister. I quieted her as quickly as I could and told her that we would talk about it later, meaning when Sarah was asleep and we could slip out of the room unnoticed. She has been questioning since long before last Christmas, but she always tells me she believ...

Responsibilities of the Oldest and Youngest

I began this 9/25/15. I am going to publish it as is. I am sure I had a story for each about each of my children, but I only made it to two. My heart is full of love and joy for the blessing my children are to me. Each one of them are working through their own set of challenges and are blossoming. I came home from work yesterday to find that Spencer had fixed the car. On his own. It was making a weird noise before he left school and he and a friend checked it out and determined that it was an easy fix and that he could drive home with it the way it was, but it should not be driven more than that until it was repaired. He went to the auto parts store and purchased the part and fixed it. Just like that. Wow! How awesome that he is developing the skills and taking the initiative to be responsible for the maintenance of the car he gets to drive. Notice I didn't say "his" car even though he likes to think of it as that. I was so impressed and proud of him for doing that...

Internet

I am grateful for the easy access to information, goods and services that the internet provides. Digital scripture study is the best thing to happen to my scripture study habits. I love the ease of cross referencing and the ability to read conference talks, the Ensign, the scriptures as well as a whole library of Church reference materials. I love online shopping. When I order Christmas gifts I feel like I get Christmas twice. Once when the package arrives and again when the gift is given. I am not a huge fan of shopping, and if it were always cost effective I think I would purchase everything online. I love the access to information that the internet provides. I makes helping my kids do research so much easier. I can look up symptoms of illness, find a recipe, get homework help, checkout a dictionary and so much more. Keeping in touch with friends and family through social media and email is also a blessing to me. I know that I cannot believe everything on the internet and tha...
