Spring Break with My Lovlies

My kids had spring break this week. We toyed with the idea of all of us going to Panguitch for part of the time, but Destry will have to take some time off next week, so grandpa picked up the boys on Wednesday. So the girls and I had some fun yesterday afternoon and all day today.

Yesterday afternoon we went to The Living Planet Aquarium in Draper. My awesome mother-in-law, Caludia, bought us a family pass for the years' birthdays. We have really enjoyed it and it expires this month so we decided to go one more time.

Next we drove to IKEA, a favorite hangout of ours. My girls love to play house in the house set ups they have. The try out the beds and other furniture too. We ate dinner in the cafeteria; we usually like doing that on Tuesdays because kids get to eat for free, but we didn't make it until Thursday. It is still a pretty cheap place to eat.

The girls wanted to watch a new version of "Annie" again after we got home. I rented it from RedBox the night before. It was good, but I didn't want to see it again so soon, so they watched it with a couple of friends before we had to return it.

Today we started a bit earlier, to go to the Zoo, but our plans changed for the better. When we arrived there was literally no more parking and there were all kinds of cars driving up and down the isles. We also spotted several buses and decided we would not be going to the Zoo right then. We had driven all the way up their and it seemed a shame to go home; remembering that my mom should be at the Family History Center, we decided to go surprise her there.

Surprised she was. When Emma went up behind her and gave her a hug and said, "Hi Grandma," she thought someone had gotten the wrong grandma. It was fun to see her at work and we did a little work ourselves. We had packed a lunch for the zoo so we found tables outside the Gateway Mall to eat at then we got a treat at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Yum!

We went on a tour of the Beehive House. I remember going there several times as a child, but the tour was much smaller now. We were only allowed to view a few rooms. The best part of going there, however, was that I ran into a high school chum who was there with her kids! She lives in Lehi and our paths have crossed a time or two since we graduated from high school a couple of years ago--haha! We walked through the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and through Temple Square. It was a beautiful spring day!

It was close to 3:30 when we got into our car and I asked if they wanted to go to the Zoo. Sarah said yes; Estelle said no, and Emma asked if I was kidding. We really had had a wonderful, full day, but I figured it didn't hurt to head up there since we were still there and there was still daylight. I knew that at least the school buses would be gone by then. We found a parking spot and went in. It was still quite crowded, and we went through quite quickly because Emma had been invited to a party that she was already late for and Estelle was hosting a party that she still had to finish preparing for.

I promised to help with the party preparations. Everything was ready to go when the first guest arrived. Estelle is the cutest party planner ever! She used her own money to buy party favors at the dollar store, planned out games and made invitations. The girls are having a ball! Estelle reluctantly let Emma make a treasure hunt to lead to the party favors. She is getting that ready with her friend right now.

It has been a great spring break!

I haven't heard from the boys, so I'm going to assume that no news means good news.

Sweet Sarah

My baby has the first birthday of the year. She turned the lucky number 7 on April 3. She could not have been more excited! We celebrated with a rainy BBQ and ice cream pie with family along with games with more ice cream pie with her friends. She recently learned how to ride a two wheeled bike without training wheels and her birthday wish was for a new helmet which Kevin and Christine delivered. She is still easy to please and we had fun parties with her. I am so grateful that she is a part of my life. She has taught me more about expressing love than anyone else. I am the Primary chorister and I have been observing the children lately, especially the younger ones. They are able to express their love freely; they give hugs and smiles to their teachers and anyone else who makes them happy. They sit on their laps and expect to be loved back. The older they get the less easy it is for them to express love. Sarah is not the youngest in Primary any more, but she is sti...

"Mom, Remember You Have 5 Kids Too"

Yesterday I was sustained to an additional calling, not a replacement. One of my friends, Corrine Prestwich was sitting in front of me and turned around and said,"So, I guess they saw five minutes left in your schedule and decided to fill it up." She knows of about my various hats I'll be wearing for the next year or more. I hadn't actually heard what she said so I just smiled and nodded, but Destry did and mentioned it when we got home. I had a good laugh mostly because she is one of the most busy, involved people I know.  Emma was sitting there listening to the conversation and piped in with, "Mom remember you have 5 kids too."  The kids had not known about the new calling, so hearing my name come across the pulpit was a surprise to them. They wanted to know if I was going to be released from Primary. I think my Primary girls like having me there. I said that I wasn't.  I have been thinking about her comment from the moment she said it, including a...

My First Born

Fifteen years and two days ago I became a mother.  I could say so much about this child, but I will share the beginning of his life on this earth.  My pregnancy went well, I gained a lot of weight even though I threw up a lot.  I was tired and hot and very uncomfortable for the last six weeks and my labor was 24 hours long.  There have been so many ups and downs since then.   I was 28 years old when I got married.  I knew I wanted a family and I knew that was a later start than for most Mormon women and I didn't know how easy it would be for me to get pregnant, so we decided not to wait.  Three months after we were married we were expecting our first child, Spencer.  I remember the day I found out.  We went to the temple that day and I had been feeling very dizzy off and on (a symptom I learned to recognize for future pregnancies).  I had a feeling in the temple that I was pregnant and I knew that was the reason I had been dizzy and no...
